Laina Norwood
Laina Norwood has been painting and studying art her whole life, from her youth in Mill Valley, California, to the Fine Arts program at University of California, Santa Barbara. She takes inspiration from the artist communities in Marin County and San Francisco, as well as Martha’s Vineyard, where she’s spent every summer.
"Summer has been the most formative season of every year I've lived. Painting it's rhythms helps me live in the moment, and carry the summer feeling with me." Norwood uses bright washes and intricate linework to depict nostalgic symbols like seafood still lifes, boats in the harbor, and iconic Vineyard locations, which she hopes expresses her connection to the locations and the era they represent.
Norwood currently works at the Eisenhauer Gallery as a gallery assistant. She enjoys participating in local curated events and shows as a way of connecting with her community. Her work was selected to be the poster image for the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival in 2023, and she was awarded the MVFAF Scholarship in 2024. She shows her work at the Eisenhauer Gallery and in San Francisco at Stephanie Breitbard Fine Arts.
