Sofia Bonati
Sofia Bonati was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1982 to a family of artists. Although she studied geology in university, drawn by her everlasting love of nature and outdoors, she nevertheless decided to pursue her artistic career when she moved to the UK in 2013. Since then, she has been developing her unique style and vision, working both as an illustrator and independent artist. Her clients include publishing brands such as Penguin Random House, Mondadori and MacMillan. Her work was showcased in The Guardian, New Scientist, Foreign Policy Magazine, Vanity Fair and participated in gallery exhibitions in the United States and Australia.
Sofia is not only after the creation of portraits to show us feminine characters, she's actually opening windows that allow us to peep into an ever-present world filled with her (and our own) transformed reflections. Both the women, background and elements are unique, undoubtful, recognisable (we are even gifted their names). And yet, there's something else... That's why it appears we know nothing and everything about the worlds we encounter in her paintings. We cycle between recognition and awe, comfort and intrigue, and we are drawn to revisit... one more time.
