As we head into the last month of the beautiful summer season, The Eisenhauer Gallery in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard offer an excellent opportunity to review and take home some of the best work we have in our vast art collection. From consumer reviews to public demand, please check out our top two artists for the month of August!
1. Featured Artist: Jylian Gustlin Featured artist Jylian Gustlin bases her art collection on her experiences growing up in the San Francisco bay area. Her home and its proximity and relationship with Silicon Valley and emerging technology highly influence her work, which often depict characters and concepts that focus on the idea of “tomorrow.” The figures in her paintings such as “Rara Avis 17,” reflect foreign environments that offer emotional depictions of the future.
Her other collection of paintings focus on the mathematical formula of The Fibonacci Theory, which is based on the numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, and so on. These sequences create certain formations and shapes as the set of numbers increases over time. Gustlin’s interpretation of this sequence offers art enthusiasts a unique journey into worlds that combine the abstract with the pragmatic. Her exploration for how art can relate and develop with math and science is just one of the many ways that her collection stands out from so many others.
2. Featured Artist: Milt Kobayashi Milt Kobayashi’s work is unique and compelling as his interpretation of the relaxed, every-day environment arouses feelings of tranquility derived from familiar scenes. The characters he creates in his paintings immediately capture the viewer’s attention through the distance and emotions drawn in their eyes. Looking at one of Kobayashi’s paintings like “Drawn Attention”, it is clear that the artist is able to articulate and present scenarios that resemble experiences most people can relate to.
The characters in this particular painting give the impression that, while they are out dining together, there is a sense of distance between the two as if the old friends have suddenly woke up and realized that everything they thought they had in common, is gone or lost. Kobayashi has received numerous awards for his work including the National Academy of Design’s Ranger Purchased Award and the Allied Arts Silver Medal. He and his work have been profiled and featured by an array of mainstream, credible sources from Forbes to Reader’s Digest.
