Stephanie Danforth

"The desire to create lies within me. I am an exceptionally visual person and I love to paint my subjects close up and larger than life. I feel like it mimics my relationship with the world – light and dark, hard and soft, serious and playful.”

Stephanie is an artist and humanitarian. Following a successful career as a pediatric nurse practitioner for 20 years, Stephanie decided to take a year sabbatical in 2000 to pursue art, a passion she had first developed in college.  The year ended and Stephanie never returned to nursing.

Also in 2000, Danforth took a safari in Kenya that first inspired her humanitarian work. Her discoveries on that visit “changed the course of her life,” she said. “My soul was touched forever by my experience. Having had a previous career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, my love and care for children was solidified there. Since then, every dollar I make with my art goes directly to helping provide education for the kids of Kenya. I return every year to oversee their progress and douse them with love. I believe very strongly in the concept of ‘pay it forward’ and that is what my art allows me to do. It's my guiding belief that by educating and empowering girls, we are able to change the face of poverty.”

Stephanie Danforth was born in Hawaii to a military family and moved often throughout her childhood. She has several degrees, including a B.S. in Psychology, Fairfield University, CT; B.S. in Nursing, St. Louis University, MO; and Masters in Nursing, Boston College, MA. She has been living on Martha’s Vineyard as a full time artist for the past 10 years.
