Specializing in mixed-media, Jill Holland is a professional full-time artist, in addition to being a wife and mother of two.
She was raised in Baton Rouge, LA and currently resides in Fredericksburg, TX.
Inspired by her deep love of scripture, nature and travel, Holland describes her creative process as a joyous appreciation of creation and the simple beauty of colors, shapes and light.
She uses a variety of creative materials in her work, including oil and acrylic paints, sand, plaster, spray paint, wood stain and metallic leaf, to create abstract landscapes that invite the viewer to connect with them in a way that transcends simple appreciation of a charming nature scene.
Using Art To Help Others
In addition to her work as an artist, Holland has an entrepreneurial spirit, and she cherishes the opportunity to expand and educate the art community. When, shortly after arriving in Texas, she discovered the need for a space to exhibit abstract, contemporary, and impressionistic work, she founded her own gallery, the Fredericksburg Good Art Company.
After three successful years, Holland sold her gallery and turned her focus to her family and teaching at The Yellow Door Studio, a community arts education center featuring beginner painting classes, art lessons and themed workshops. Her “Art & Vino” classes, in which she instructs amateur painters in a merry and social setting that includes hors d’oeuvres and encourages participants to bring wine, are especially popular.
Committed to supporting her local art community, Holland founded The Fredericksburg Art Guide and published the 2013 and 2014 issues. She is also one of the original founders and liaison for the First Friday Art Walk in the Historic Shopping District of Fredericksburg.
A professional painter since the age of 21, Holland has had her work featured in numerous individual and group art shows since 2007. She has sold thousands of paintings that reside in private and corporate collections both nationally and internationally, and received the Collectors Choice Award at Contemporary Masters Invitation for her painting “Beach Glass” in November 2014, and the House and Home Magazine, Artisans Award for mixed media painting in February 2014.
Her pieces have been published in multiple art magazines, including American Art Collector, Southwest Art Magazine and American Art Collector Magazine, and can be seen on episodes of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and The WB’s Lying Games. Look for more of her work to be featured in the Terrence Malik film, Knight of Cups, coming in 2015.
