“My work is inspired by my love of animals and focuses on color, texture and the personality of the animal. Using brush and painting knives, I enjoy moving around thick layers of paint on the canvas.” ~ Michael Che-Swisher

Michael-Che Swisher is the answer for art enthusiasts who love to collect paintings that describe and personify animals. What began as a childhood obsession, painting any animal that strolled through the backyard, has turned into a full-time career for Swisher whose work focuses on highlighting the texture and personality of the animals in her life. After graduating from the Academy of Art University in San Fransico, CA, Swisher began her career painting murals of the world famous Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. She then went on to work as an illustrator for seven years, covering everything from children’s books to towels and advertisements. Today, her artwork lives in private collections throughout the United States and across the world in places like Australia, Japan and Great Britain.

Her collection with The Eisenhauer Gallery portrays a wide array of birds that are drawn using brush and painting knives. She mixes her colors on palettes and canvases alike, painting on instinct rather than predetermined plots. Drawings such as “Moody Coming Through” offer the viewer a sense of personality for subjects that are typically displayed in a straightforward manner with the animal simply existing in confined space.
